Johannesburg – Following an impactful partnership since 2019, Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) is excited to announce the sponsorship renewal of the Pedal Power Association (PPA) for an additional three years, until March 2028. Aligned to Toyota’s philosophy for Active Safety, the core focus of the sponsorship will be on cycling safety in all spheres, including schools.
Commenting on the extended sponsorship, Glenn Crompton, Vice President for Marketing at Toyota South Africa said, “At Toyota, we believe that it is our prerogative to advance the goal of mobility safety for all. With cycling as a form of mobility, our association with Pedal Power Association further entrenches our commitment to creating positive value for the planet and society.”
Established in 1976, Pedal Power Association (PPA) is a Public Benefit Organisation committed to promoting cycling and the interests of cyclists. Its mandate encompasses recreational cycling (on- and off-road), development through cycling, and safe cycling awareness. PPA carries out its advocacy through various nationwide campaigns such as Stay Wider of the Rider and Bike4All. These campaigns raise awareness about the importance of safe cycling and promote bike mobility as a means of transport and a way to stay fit and healthy.
Through the support from Toyota South Africa, Pedal Power Association has reached significant milestones. With visibility a key component to maintaining the safety of cyclists, PPA has manufactured quality merchandise which increase visibility whilst cycling on the road.
“We are excited about the renewal of Toyota’s sponsorship to Pedal Power Association. This renewed support empowers the Pedal Power Association to continue its impactful work across schools and communities throughout South Africa, promoting safer cycling and expanding mobility for all. We are proud to collaborate with partners who believe in the transformative power of cycling to change lives and connect communities,” said Neil Robinson, CEO of Pedal Power Association.
Toyota South Africa’s recommitment to Pedal Power Association extends beyond being a vehicle partner and promoting cycling safety for regular cyclists. Through the sponsorship, Pedal Power launched the Cool Kid on a Bike safe cycling programme in all 1600 primary and high schools within the Western Cape Province. With a significant number of South African children having to walk to school every day, the programme is pivotal to enabling learners access to education.
This renewed commitment builds on the initial donation of 400 Toyota-branded bicycles, which were distributed to schools and children in disadvantaged communities. This reinforced Toyota and PPA’s shared dedication to mobility, safety, and opportunity.
“For Toyota, we believe there’s many ways to create and effect positive change in our society. The partnership with Pedal Power Association enables us to reach communities and to meet their needs in meaningful ways. We are excited about this sponsorship renewal and look forward with great anticipation to the impact we’ll continue to make within our wider communities,” concluded Glenn.
